A great gadget from CES

Ah CES, the Las Vegas convention where techies, audiophiles, videophiles, gamers, and computer nerds like myself drool over the new toys that will be coming out over the next year. Today I was playing around on the internet and came across a company called OWLink that has a device that is on display at the show.

Do you hate having your home theater equipment in the same room as your TV or do you not have any room for your AV equipment where your TV is? Well the Digital Light Link is going to help you out with that.

Here’s how it works: The HDMI output of your Cable/Satellite/U-Verse box, DVD player, or AV receiver is connected to the Digital Light Link send box. You then connect the Digital Light Link receive box to your TV/Display and run a fiber optic cable between the two boxes. That’s it! The boxes comes with an IR sensor port on it so you can still control your devices and the upper line model even has a USB port on it so you can connect your PC to it.

An example that the company has on their website is that you can have your TV/Display setup on the wall over a fireplace and have your other video equipment in a wiring closet or else where in the home.

Both boxes are small enough that they won’t get in the way of anything and can easily be hidden behind the TV/Display and AV gear. They’ll run everything you want through the one fiber cable and are even HDCP compliant.

With products like this being shown off at CES it’s going to be an exciting couple of days!
