U-Verse Update
After I got U-Verse installed the day after Christmas my fiance and I started to notice that shows would freeze for up to 10 minutes, that the picture would become distorted and blocky with pixels, and that the HD stations would have a hard time keeping up with the picture (we’d get colors from past frames in the new frame making things look like an acid trip). When the install tech left he gave me his card and told me to call him if I had any problems so I gave him a ring. After answering the basic questions he asked me to go to the U-Verse router’s information page. After reading out some of the numbers that were on the screen it was decided that the phone line going into my apartment was bad. Here’s a screen shot of that screen.
When the tech was installing U-Verse originally he mentioned that there might be a problem because the line that was connected to the phone box in the basement was not the same line that was connected to the jacks in my house. He and I didn’t think twice about it once the picture was up and running but it looked like he would need another way to get the signal into my apartment.
After doing some poking around he found the old cable line that went from the phone box in the basement to my apartment. After doing some checking it looked like the cable line was intact and would work. All he had to do was move my U-Verse router to the other side of the room where the cable line came into the apartment and we were set. Here’s another screen shot after 24 hours with the new setup.
Now the cable line can be used to get the U-Verse service into the house but it is not recommended to go from the router to the TV box using the cable. Apparently the boxes have been noticing problems for some reason with the modulators. So, for now at least, a network cable will need to be run from the U-Verse router to the TV box. As you can see from the screen shot there’s still a problem with corrected blocks but over all there’s a real big difference. The tech has already told me that if I continue to have problems that they’ll need to run a new line from my apartment to the phone box in the basement but that’s alright, I’m still amazed at the service I’ve had with them. There’s no way in hell Dish Network would have done that.
